Sitarist and composer Ravi Shankar, who assisted introduce the sitar towards the civilized world through his collaborations using the Beatles, died near his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, his family stated. He was 92.

Shankar, a 3-time Grammy champion with legendary looks in the 1967 Monterey Festival and Woodstock, have been in fragile health for quite some time and last Thursday went through surgery, his family stated inside a statement.

“Although it’s a here we are at sorrow and sadness, it’s also a period for people to provide thanks and also to be grateful that people could get him to as part of our way of life,” the household stated. “He’ll live forever within our hearts as well as in his music.”

The statement stated Shankar had experienced from upper respiratory system and heart issues in the last year and went through heart-valve alternative surgery a week ago.

The surgery was effective but he was not able to recuperate.

“Regrettably, regardless of the best efforts from the surgeons and doctors being careful of him, his body was unable to withstand the stress of the surgery. I was at his side as he died,” his wife Sukanya and daughter Anoushka stated.

Shankar resided both in India and also the United States. He’s also made it by his daughter, Grammy-winning singer Norah Johnson, three grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Shankar carried out his last concert together with his daughter Anoushka Shankar on November 4 in Lengthy Beach, California, the statement stated. The evening before he went through surgery, he was nominated for any Grammy for his latest album “The Family Room Periods, Part 1.”

Shankar is credited with making popular Indian music through his use violinist Yehudi Menuhin and also the Beatles within the late sixties.
